Columbus Zoo To Hand Raise Baby Polar Bear

The Columbus Zoo has decided to remove a remaining polar bear cub from its mother and hand raise it by zoo staff.

Aurora, the Columbus Zoo’s polar bear had two cubs on November 6th, one of which did not survive. Aurora started  taking breaks from caring for the remaining cub and the breaks have been getting longer and longer, hence the decision by zookeepers to not take any chances with this cub.

The cute female cub is healthy so far and weighs a perfectly normal 1 ½  pounds, gaining weight steadily. Normally the zoo would keep its distance and let the mother take care of the cub on her own; at this time the zoo feels it is best for the cubs health if they take over her care.
