The Houston Zoo announced recently that they have welcomed eight baby Madagascar big-headed turtles.
According to a news release by the zoo, the baby turtles were found swimming in their parents’ home in the lemur moat at the zoo’s Wortham World of Primates late last month. On average, the babies weigh less than 0.02 pounds. Their shells measure 1.3 inches long and one inch wide.
The zoo also discovered 20 more eggs that are expected to hatch in the next few months.
According to the Houston Chronicle, the turtles and their mother are not yet on public display.
