Mystic Aquarium Releases First Rescued Seal of 2016

This morning, Mystic Aquarium‘s animal rescue team arrived at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, Rhode Island with their first release patient of the year in tow.

A male harbor seal they’ve named Mustard Seed was rescued by The International Fund for Animal Welfare back in October in Dennis, Massachusetts.

Mustard Seed was in rough shape upon arrival to Mystic Aquarium’s rescue clinic, weighing only 33 pounds. He also required treatment for several wounds on his face.

Today, Mustard Seed was given the green light for release at eight months old and a much more robust 65 pounds.
