After Thanksgiving comes Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the official kickoff of the holiday shopping season. We show our love through generosity, with the giving of gifts, festive foods, and holiday greetings. This year, share that generosity with other people, animals, and organizations you appreciate all year long.
Giving Tuesday is observed on the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving and is in its fourth year. Use of the hashtag #GivingTuesday harnesses the power of social media and the generosity of those around the world to complete an act, no matter how large or small, in an effort to bring about positive change in their community.
The movement’s roots are planted at 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City that has been bringing people together around the core values of service and giving back since 1874. Part of Giving Tuesday is also to recognize charitable giving and community service during the holiday season.
We at Zoo Nation celebrate conservation mindedness and environmental stewardship every day. Some leaders in these fields are the zoos, aquariums, and animal rescue centers in our own backyards and turning our generosity toward them this Giving Tuesday is a great show of our thanks and support. Some of many organizations doing amazing things are The Monterey Bay Aquarium, The SeaWorld Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, and The San Antonio Zoo.
You can celebrate #GivingTuesday by participating in cleanups on local beaches, public parks, hiking trails, and nearby waterways. Teach others about conservation mindedness by taking the items you pick up to your local recycling center. Take photos and use the #GivingTuesday hashtag to inspire others.
Your small actions have a huge impact on our world.
