Attention teachers: Take your class on an unforgettable adventure without leaving the comfort of your classroom. Shedd Aquarium has launched virtual field trips, an immersive educational program aimed at grades K-8 called Live from Behind the Scenes.
Join veterinarians and animal care specialists as they broadcast live from their animal hospital, shark, or penguin habitats. A virtual field trip offers the educational content of a traditional visit without the permission slips.
This live interactive experience is 50 minutes in length and the necessary equipment to view the broadcast is a computer connected to the Internet, a webcam and/or microphone, and equipment to project the computer onto a large screen for the whole class to see.
Each session is unique as you will be following aquarium experts live as they perform their daily duties.
Additionally, each program includes in-class activities such as identifying animals from X-rays and designing shark identification tags, and a Q&A session with a member of the animal care team.
Live stream technology is making it possible to bring the natural world closer to our children than ever before. Learning about wildlife through experiences and real connections teaches children about a world full of amazing creatures and the things we can do to conserve and protect them.
