Seattle: The Woodland Park Zoo has reached out to the public for help naming their baby gorilla.
Enter the contest with your best name suggestion for a chance at the grand prize. The winning name should be from the Hausa, Yoruba, or Igbo languages which are spoken in the parts of Africa where the critically endangered western lowland gorilla is found in the wild.
The baby is female, born on November 20, 2015. She is a fourth generation Woodland Park Zoo gorilla. Her mother, Nadiri, grandmother, Jumoke, and great-grandfather, Pete, all reside at the zoo.
A panel of judges will select the winning name that takes home the grand prize, which is:
- 1-year annual Woodland Park Zoo membership for one family which includes two adults and two children
- ZooParent gorilla adoption
- Opportunity to join a gorilla staff member for a private meet and greet for up to five people at the public viewpoint of the gorilla exhibit
- Framed photograph of the newly-named gorilla infant
